Olympique Marseille vs Lille OSC - Review and Highlights
MARSEILLE, November 23 ( Ligue 1 )
Olympique Marseille missed the chance to move back into second place in Ligue 1 tonight although they did salvage a draw against Lille OSC thanks to Bolo Zenden's injury-minute equaliser.
Lille led 2-0 after 37 minutes, goals from Adil Rami and Michel Bastos putting them in control.
Mamadou Samassa pulled one back two minutes into the second half and former Liverpool midfielder Zenden netted a dramatic leveller at the death.
The draw means Marseille stay third, a point behind Nice and six adrift of leaders Olympique Lyon.
Lille started well and could have taken the lead in the second minute, Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda making a wonderful save to keep out Hazard's 25-yard drive.
But the pressure told nine minutes later as Rami capitalised on some hesitant defending to nip in ahead of Mandanda and head into the net.
Samassa almost equalised immediately but shot over having burst through while Marseille came even closer after 25 minutes, Mamadou Niang's curling 30-yard effort coming back off the bar.
Lille rode their luck and increased their advantage eight minutes before the break following another piece of mis-communication in the Marseille defence.
Mandanda came for Mathieu Debuchy's floated free-kick but home defender Ronald Zubar got their first and attempted to head it back to his goalkeeper. The ball was heading towards the empty net with Bastos making sure it crossed the line.
Marseille needed a quick response after the interval and it came when Samassa headed home Laurent Bonnart's pin-point cross.
Benoit Cheyrou came close to an equaliser but his 25-yard shot was well saved by Malicki while Lille remained dangerous on the break.
Nicolas Fauvergue shot wide after 78 minutes and Bastos wasted a match-winning chance four minutes later when, having burst through, he saw his shot superbly saved by Mandanda.
It was to prove a costly miss as Marseille equalised in the first minute of injury-time, Zenden curling in a free-kick which went through the wall and into the left corner.
