Montpellier Sidle up to Lyon in a Bid for Third

Given Olympique Lyonnais’ stagnation at third along with their deepening point distance from AJ Auxerre and Olympique Marseille, Montpellier had their sights set on replacing OL at 59 points. With today’s 1-1 tie against Toulouse, Montpellier has succeeded only at achieving 59 points themselves and are therefore running a very tight race with the Lyonnais.

The majority of today’s match was dominated by Montpellier and Alberto Costa’s goal at 31 minutes. Montpellier maintained their one point lead until two minutes (90'+2) into in injury time when Colin Kazim-Richards equalized
(and who was subsequently booked for taking his shirt off during his goal celebration.)

Today’s result at Stade de la Mosson, while not the desired outcome for Montpellier - easily the more deserving side,  must certainly be more welcome to them than to OL.

Further, though there were four bookings for Montpellier, it was an improvement on last week's double expulsions (Cyril Jeunechamp and René Girard) against Le Mans (who also acquired two expulsions respectively for Gregory Cerdan and Daniel Jeandupeux).

In general Ligue 1’s 33rd and 34th day primarily served to entrench Auxerre and Marseille in the table’s top two

Great season by Montpellier anyway. Comeback from ligue 2 and immediate fight for Champions Legaue spots, that's amazing and possible in France only (and germany sometimes). I remember Lille, Metz and few other teams that have done it in earlier years.

I hoped they could do even more, they had a great position to fight for title few weeks ago, but this is good too.

BTW. Montpellier's Spahic is my ex. neigbor, we grow up together. Our father's houses are like 20 meters distanced

Yeah, I could make some interview with him once, I see him sometimes when I go to my parents town and he is free from football duties too but it would but a pain to translate it later

Last summer he brought Edin Dzeko to our neigbourhood and they played some football on a playground we grow up, hehe

Here it is, luckily found it on the net as FB has banned my personal account last night.

The guy in read is Emir's brother, he is playing football too but not on his brother's level so he usually makes a deal for him too when he is signing a contract with some team. If I remember good, he played for second Motnpellier team for some time (maybe he still is, I'm not sure)
