Mutu to pay €17m to Chelsea

Adrian Mutu must pay Chelsea 17 million euros after losing his appeal against a Fifa ruling for a breach of contract.



The striker, who cost the Blues £15m in 2003, was sacked a year later after he tested positive for cocaine and given a seven-month worldwide football ban.



Fifa issued the fine last year but Mutu described it as "inhumane and unjust" and outlined his intention to appeal.

Sir Bobby Robson dies

Former England and Newcastle manager Sir Bobby Robson died on Friday at the age of 76 after a long battle with cancer.



Robson, whose first brush with the disease that would ultimately claim him was in 1992, led England to the World Cup semi-finals in 1990 before leaving to manage a host of top European clubs including PSV Eindhoven, Sporting Lisbon, Porto, Barcelona and finally his boyhood team Newcastle.

Samir Nasri broke a leg

Arsenal and French international midfielder Samir Nasri has been ruled out of action for six to eight weeks after breaking his leg in training on Tuesday.



Nasri broke his right fibula during a training match at Arsenal's summer camp in Bad Waltersdorf, in southeastern Austria, said Andreas Neubauer, a spokesman for camp organiser International Football Camps Styria (IFCS).

Adebayor signs for Man City

Manchester City have added to their collection of strikers by signing Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor on a five-year deal for a fee of about £25m.



The 25-year-old joins fellow new signings Roque Santa Cruz and Carlos Tevez at Eastlands.

UEFA reduce Bans for Drogba and Bosingwa

European football's governing body UEFA on Wednesday agreed to reduce bans handed down to Chelsea striker Didier Drogba and defender Jose Bosingwa for their angry outbursts which followed the club's Champions League exit to FC Barcelona in May.

Manchester City on Monday said they had signed Argentine striker Carlos Tevez, who left Manchester United at the end of the season, amid reports they also want Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor.

Manchester City defender Micah Richards has contracted swine flu and is stuck in Cyprus, The Sun newspaper reported on Saturday.

Bayern wants €80m for Ribery

Lyon sign Lisandro Lopez

Seven times Ligue 1champions Olympique Lyon have moved to replace Real Madrid-bound Karim Benzema by agreeing a deal with FC Porto to sign Argentinian striker Lisandro Lopez.
