Why Is Real Madrid out of the Champions League for the 6th time in a row in the last 16??

The money didn't change anything, even if I am a fan of Lyon, I wonder how Real Madrid is out, because they played pretty well. Its the 6 th time in a row they're out before the last 8, so how is Real Madrid a "big" club?

How they're considered big ? Maybe because they have 9 Europe titles, more than anyone else :). Maybe because they're the richest and have top stars playing for them all the time. Of course they're big, the biggest :), they're just having bad times and bad decision makers. It would save them lot of troubles if they would have EPL type managers like Wenger or Ferguson who would decide everything when players are in charge.

Now they have presidents who are "buying" their chairs with buying stars and not thinking about team in complete manner. That's why they have huge stars in front but not very good behind. Then, if few bad results happen, they change manager, new one comes and face the same thing after few months.

Real Madrid needs good manager that would stay for years and be a real boss when buying players. If that would happen, with all money and infrastructure they have, they would rule again. But anyway, anyone can drop out in final stages, it's just 2 matches and there are no bad teams there. Milan dropped out, Chelsea or Inter Milan would drop out... you can never be sure you'll beat almost anyone nowadays (unless you have Wenger or Ferguson in charge :-) )

Lol :)

Lyon was better team in these 2 clashes, no doubt 'bout that but the rest is typical United fan's story :) When Real ruled the World, Manchester was nowhere... and many it's current fans didn't knew about it :)) But United has better results last 5 years and now Real is poor club, lol. C'mon dude :))

Madraid is the best version of modern day beggers----------- always trying to achieve glory by borrowing and robbing other teams stars.
The petty politics of presidential election overwhelms all other matters.
Ronaldo has fucked himself big time by going to Real.
Kaka is old and almost a spent force.
Others are to overshadowed by the presence of the galacticos.
Barca is having the last laugh.
Poor Real supporters.

Because they suck!!!!!!!!!!! ass cuz they just have money to buy player
and that dousent make a team!!! but like barca they make stars but real

Yeah, Guti, Casillas, Raul are bought too :)

Few years ago Real Madrid was the strongest team on the world, Barca was losing 0:4 and 0:3 from Dynamo Kiev. Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal were nowhere to see in Europe before 1990's It's just cute to see people with such a short memory :).

Real would come back, don't worry, they already have bought few extraordinary players, 2-3 more and some time to fit them all and you'll eat your words :)

Avishek, what about Arsenal ? Real Madrid is paying huge money (not robbing) for other team stars but Wenger is buying talented kids from other teams paying peanuts for them, I would rather call that "robbing" :). Every big team is buying, actually, Real Madrid made more extraordinary players than any English team but you guys have fan blindness and don't see it :). Only problem with Real Madrid is that they're buying players to win presidental elections and don't include managers in those decisions.

i was expecting something like this- u have just opened the pandora's box- this will keep me going-
I will reply in installments.

To start with clubs like Real madrid (now city and to some extent chelsea) have completely distorted the Transfer market and the transfer pricing of players.
Ordinary players gets the wages of good players and so on and so forth.
Most importantly many a club unknowingly fall in to this trap of buying players at an inflated price and their accumulated debts increases.
Real madrid can afford any price coz funds for them is not related to success in league or ticket sale.
whenever they need funds they sale a piece of huge real estate they possess.
Other clubs bear the brunt.
Real is actually violating the laws of running a football club within its means. Still they are left to soak up tears worth 250 million..............
Wait for the next installment on creating home grown players, success, competition and managerial politics.

how can u say that real produce more superstars than english clubs----------boss all ur stars excepting a few are borrowed. Before 90's ie in he 80's Liverpool even had monopoly in the premier league.
Now ur talking like a bias. i judge a team on their performance over the last decade and real being the club it was has acheived peanuts, the same has been true for Liverpool, i admit.

Their disrespect towards Lyon's players was their biggest mistake. Lyon has never lost to Madrid in the past 5 years and they still consider them as "second class team" (Guti), they were supposed to win 3/0 (Ramos). That bunch of w.....s will think twice next time they meet the Olympique Lyonnais.
Now consider your 250 millions spent last summer for supposed "stars" that can't play together as a real team.
Galacticos is just a bad sequel.
My last word will go for Lyon, who just reacted the best way to these arrogant basterdz.

Lets walk together, tell me one top class player Liverpool produced recently, or Manchester United or even Arsenal ?

Gonzo, I agree that Real Madrid underrated Lyon, that's probably the main reason they lost. Those so called stars are stars, I doubt you had not consider Xabi Alonso as a star when he played for your team :). Or maybe you want to say that Ronaldo is not star ? Or Kaka ?

Of course it's not anything unusual to change half of a team and don't have a play and results in first season. If I remember good, Liverpool paid 25 millions for Aquillani but he's still not even close to fit in the team.

You can talk what you want but Real Madrid and Barcelona would always be big, huge teams. They're just much more than just teams for their cities and they'll never had problems like English teams have. Real Madrid has 400-500 million in debts, that's still less than Liverpool or Manchester United. And they'll never have to fear of bankrupting or something like that. They're too important for their communities for that being allowed. On other side, English teams are just business and they're going to get in huge problems very soon (they already are, just look at their buying power this season or look what happened to Portsmouth ;)

And another thing... you all say "you can't buy trophies".. lol, say that to Wolverhampton's, Chievo Verona's or VfL Bochum's fans. I wonder why those teams never win any trophies. Probably because they have lot of money :).

And here is the list of top 20 paid players for this season (all teams that don't buy trophies, lol:

1. Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid, 13 mil. eur/year)

2. Zlatan Ibrahimović (Barcelona, 12)

3. Lionel Messi (Barcelona, 10,5)

Samuel Eto'o (Inter, 10,5)

5. Kaka (Real Madrid, 10)

6. Emmanuel Adebayor (Manchester City, 8,5)

Karim Benzema (Real Madrid, 8,5)

8. Carlos Tevez (Manchester City, 8)

9. John Terry (Chelsea, 7,5)

Frank Lampard (Chelsea, 7,5)

Thierry Henry (Barcelona, 7,5)

Xavi (Barcelona, 7,5)

Ronaldinho (AC Milan, 7,5)

Steven Gerrard (Liverpool, 7,5)

15. Daniel Alves (Barcelona, 7)

16. Michael Ballack (Chelsea, 6,5)

Raul (Real Madrid, 6,5)

Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United, 6,5)

Kolo Toure (Manchester City, 6,5)

20. Wayne Rooney (Manchester United, 6)

Avishek, I agree with you that money paid for players is a nonsense, but calling that robbery is nonsense too. Only one robbed there is Real Madrid. That's their problem of course but they are definitely not robbing for ex. United paying them 94 mil. of euros for Ronaldo. I'm sure SAF doesn't feel robbed.

But those small teams that lose their 13-14-15 youngsters bought by English teams are robbed. They maybe don't break any laws with those robberies but moral of those action is very low.

So, there is no place to play with some morality or emotions here, your team or any other top European team are not Mother Theresa's too ;)
