Wenger guilty of Arsene as title ambitions well and truly go up in flames!

Is it me, or does anyone else think Arsene Wenger is so blinded by the faith he has in his youngsters that he loses focus on the job at hand.  I'm aware that with Arsenal's three page injury list that there are certain positions that will be hard to fill... especially in defense but then there has always been a question mark over Arsenal's defense even with Gallas and Vermaelen fully fit.  In Wenger's defense he doesn't have much choice but to play Sylvestre and Campbell so that's not what I'm going to query.  It's his decision today (against Wigan) to play the likes Clint Eastmond, Fran Merida and to some extent Niklas Bendtner when there is a fully fit Van Persie sat in wait.  Perhaps I'm wrong, perhaps he has more faith in the likes of  the experienced Van Persie because he felt he could win the game for us in the 4 minutes of injury time that he played.  How many times must a team throw away a 2 goal lead against, medioca at best opposition, when there is a title to be won.  Wenger, despite his towering footballing intellect, and his success in formative years, he has let his fans down once again with some poor decision making and our patience is wearing thin.  I know there are a few Arsene Wenger loyalist's on this site and up until today I was one of them, but for the first time I actually doubted his ability and wondered if he really is the best man for the job.  Had we won today, keeping the pressure on Manchester United and Chelsea, but still lost the title at least we could say we had a go.  However, we didn't win and after recently stating that I believe Arsenal's glory days were on the horizon, the game against Wigan showed we are miles from any sort of trophy because we cannot produce the results WHEN IT COUNTS!  Something has got to change, I fear that change could be Wenger

i can see that Wenger was deeply disappointed with his youngsters today. he had even vowed to dole out on those quality players, although it may be a little bit too late. goalkeeper is definitely one section we have to thoroughly reform. next, we don't have enough center backs and both wing backs are too exposed in going forward. midfield is still fine, but players like Denilson should not be staying long now. for strikers, so sorry to say, eduardo and bendtner have to go. the latter may be good enough as a substitution, but definitely not for starting 11.

i know gooners were very fed up with arsene's excuses. let's hope that today's scenario will make arsene thinks twice on his strategy and the development of the club.

still, i choose to believe in arsene for one more season. nothing more than that.
I have to say that I don't understand the title of this thread)

Wenger ? hm... he's good manager, I'll repeat manager !!! He buys low, sells high.. You can not blame him for Arsenal lack of winning titles. If the budget he has is most he can get, then I would say he is doing great job. Always near the top, not spending too much and manage the team with productivity.. I can't blame him for that, football is business today and he obviously has to fit himself inside budget he has.

He choosed (I know it's not spelled OK but don't know how to do it on right way, lol) to buy young players for cheap and sell them later for more money so he can have financial aspect covered). It's not easy to win titles with that policy but he still brings some money to the team, doesn't go to the debts too much so I'm sure owners are pretty satisfied with that.

You can question him as much as you want but as long as owners are satisfied with his work even with lack of titles, you can't change anything.
True, true, true...this game brutally exposed Wenger's mediocre management. 2-0 up and he was happy to see Arsenal try to brave the constant onslaught from wigan in the 2nd half. Anyone could see the gunners were overwhelmed but wenger chose to start throwing tantrums at the touchline only after conceding, and worse yet he ignored options to bolster attacking power to ease all the defensive pressure on the backline. Don't know about the rest of y'all gunner fans, but a manager who can't orchestrate victory over a wigan team that wasted so many wasted goal scoring opportunities can't purport to have a hunger to win, let alone the desire to be champions. And one mo thing, passing the ball across midfield countless times then offering pathetic final balls just means arsenal keep good possesion with tidy passes, but not attacking football...surely after the barca game wenger must realize this to be FACT!!! Why he sticks to failed policies no one will ever know...
i agree with u. hes actually doing a great job with the youngsters. hes the type of manager that will help financial problems. hes not good at tactics and such, but is good at financing. he wins as a business man, but fails winning with arsenal. capello is the exact opposite during that real madrid incident. did successful as a manager, but failed to finance when he lost beckam. lost all that money they could have get. oh well, they are rich in the first place

It was supposed to be tabloid-esque, arson, Arsene... If I have to explain it further it's not worth it....

In response to the rest of your comments, I don't doubt for one second his ability to bring 'cheap' youngsters through the ranks and he has got a brilliant business mind, one which, if he stays long enough, may turn Arsenal into a very wealthy company.... no sorry... I mean football club. I just think his blind faith costs Arsenal points, and trophies. He fields inexperienced squads on games he thinks Arsenal should win with ease, example, yes Arsenal should beat Stoke City at the Brittannia in the FA Cup... but with the side that came back from 2 - 0 down against Bolton to win 4 - 2 and go top of the 3 days before, not a compilation of bench warming first teamers and unfamiliar reserves. He is guilty of showing the same complacency and arrogance (in squad selection) that his team show on field. I hope that is the last we see of Lukacz Shabbianski. I'm hoping Vitor Mannone might be called upon in the next few weeks, I thought he had a brilliant spell earlier in the season. Anyway, I could rant all night, especially after today's result. In better news it seems Wenger is very keen to buy in Marouane Chamakh from Bordeaux to bolster Arsenal's striking options.

it's due to my lack of English than, it's cool. I thought it's a typo, lol

I understand how you feel... this match was not important, Arsenal wouldn't take a title even if they won but it's definitely not a great way to lose.

I used to say last weeks that Arsenal lost the title in first part of the season in one similar match to this one. One against West Ham (away) when they had a comfortable 2:0 and West Ham scored twice in last 10-15 minutes... Wenger acted completely same as today - he didn't act at all, it looked it's finished after 2:0 and he stayed silent until it was late.

But I still think he is a great manager and I still think that Arsenal can't get a better one.
arsenal is one of the few species that hasn't been taken over by foreign owner. mainly due to wenger's prudence, arsenal spent the least and always manage to finish in top four, if you take consider the ratio, arsenal is one of the most effective business and football team.

personally i believe there are some players that are not good enough. wenger should not bear the brunt and blame all on his own. if you desperately want trophies, support manchester united instead. no matter how disappointing the players have played, he never lash out on them publicly, instead he chooses to defend them. in the point of view of a coach, he is really fatherly and kind enough not to crush the players' confidence.

i don't know how many unknown players have a meteoric rise after being at arsenal, all i know is that we direly need a trophy to prove ourselves. all in all, if arsene were to go, that's the end of arsenal. many players will be leaving along. most of the young players need a manager like wenger to put in faith on them and to guide them.

when the whole world is against fabianski after porto game, who is the only one that stands out?
all in all, if arsene were to go, that's the end of arsenal.

It's not the end of end, but it's definitely the end of arsenal we all know. Just like it would happen with United when Ferguson retire. I don't see any manager on the market that could successfully replace Wenger. There are good managers that have similar or smaller budget but their teams are positioned below Arsenal too (like O'Neal or that Everton manager which name I can't remember now if you would give me a Real Madrid yearly budget), Mourinho is good but he's buying all the time, he's not for building players and team from "nothing", there are few good Italian managers but I don't think they would be interested, Hiddink looks like he is interested in national teams only (smart guy, much less job and salaries are great)...

So, Arsene is definitely best Arsenal can get... without him Arsenal would fight with Aston Villa and Everton, with him Arsenal is fighting with Chelsea and United. Losing year by year but still fighting with them, Villa and Everton can't even fight.
Totally agree!!!!
Bendtner, Eduardo, Fabianski and Silvestre need to go and some new talent along with a new trainer/physio to shorten the injury list for the next season
That's good question Abdullah. I have asked myself last season if Arsenal have some mistakes in training process that lead to so many injuries..
Though I will refrain from adding to the Arsène discussion (I really can't find a way to make one person hold all responsibility for a loss in a such a collective enterprise...) I can't help from thinking that in a few weeks we're going to have to re-edit this thread to ask if it is not in fact THIRD PLACE that has been conceded. As much as I love Arsenal, should they get bumped by Man City or Spurs, I offer a heartfelt prayer to absolutely every national, regional, and tribal god to please, please, please let it beat Spurs that knocks them out.
Maybe it isn't Wenger I'm mad at then, maybe my problem is that football isn't a sport any more.
