D'une part, le Galatasaray, créé en 1905 par des élèves du lycée français éponyme, évoque l'aspect ottoman et aristocratique de la ville. De l'autre, le Fenerbahçe, qui a vu le jour en 1907 sur la rive orientale du Bosphore, plus kémaliste et républicain. Eric Cantona pénètre dans l'intimité de deux groupes d'amis rivaux, quelques jours avant le derby Galatasaray / Fenerbahçe.
